Catholic Life

Finding faith woven into the fabric of every classroom in our Catholic beliefs is central to each student’s experience at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic School. Through prayer and study of our faith, we seek to develop an awareness of the dignity of all people and a moral compass that will help guide student’s decisions throughout their lives. The foundation for a vibrant faith life is created by preparing students for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation with their classmates in second and ninth grade.

Students begin and end the day with prayer and attend Mass once a week. Each semester every grade participates in a Great Grade Mass in which the students’ families and special friends are invited to join us at Mass with time to visit together as a community. Grade Buddies prepare monthly All School Masses to celebrate important times in our faith such as All Saints Day, St. Charles Borromeo Feast Day and May Crowning.

Throughout the year classes explore and grow in their understanding by cultivating virtues of discipleship and love of God and neighbor. Our Catholic faith focuses on the teachings of the church, celebrating the liturgical seasons, deepening our students’ experiences of prayer and attending mass each Friday. In addition, we give our students the opportunity to establish devotions and use sacramentals in their daily lives.

Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic School instructs and builds up our students in Catholic teachings and traditions that respects all faiths. Students from a variety of faiths are a valued part of our school community.

Two of the most important faith moments of second grade are the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Formation through Family Faith allows the student and their parents to deepen their faith through prayer, scripture, and dialogue. The school and families work together in ensuring this journey of faith is nurtured and growing as the students prepare for each of these sacraments.

The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the initiation of the Holy Catholic Church. At St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School, preparation begins in 8th grade and it is a two-year program. This preparation is designed to enable the candidate’s awakening of their own spiritual relationship with Christ.

Working with their parents and sponsors, the candidates will spend the next two years working on projects that provide reflection on their growth with Christ and the Mission for them. Candidates develop habits of prayer and service to others and participate in small group faith meetings /retreats throughout the year. Confirmation is celebrated the second year in the spring. Our hope is Confirmation will lead our youth to continue a personal relationship with Christ and actively participate in our local Church.
